Deserts, eroded slopes, inhospitable mountain plateaus — he succeeded in planting trees everywhere. Millions of them. In 43 countries. Then, suddenly, cancer struck. His son Wout now continues his mission of restoring tree cover on 2 billion hectares of degraded land.
